A pre-sale estimate reflects a specialist's reading of the market — recent comparable sales, the work's condition, and current collector appetite. It's a calibrated range, not a verdict. Works regularly sell above estimate when two determined bidders want the same thing.

Buyer's Premium
The number nobody mentions until you're already in love.
On top of the hammer price, buyers pay a premium — typically 25% on the first $250,000, scaled down on higher amounts. If a painting hammers at $10,000, you pay $12,500 total. Factor this in when setting your paddle limit. We print it on every lot page, in plain type, before you bid.

Prints & Editions
Why two identical prints can sell for ten times the difference.
Edition number matters — a 1/5 commands more than a 45/200. But condition, provenance, and whether the print was hand-signed in the artist's presence matter just as much. A lower edition number with foxing loses to a higher number in pristine condition. Context is everything.
